A lot of people have suspected, with good reason, that there’s a thin line between self-development communities and cults. Some have begun questioning whether they’re in cults, or turning away from certain leaders because it started feeling cult-like, and I’ve also had clients confide in me that they’re afraid of potentially involving their clients in cultish dynamics.
The truth is the line between cult and non-cult is more nebulous and subjective than we might think. There are many dictionary descriptions of what a cult means, and not all of them insinuate something bad. So, if you’re finding it murky trying to distinguish what a cult is, and how to ensure you’re not in a cult or accidentally lead a cult, listen in.
