Is there something they fear losing? Does it challenge an old identity, or habits that gave them comfort? Then, you want to directly address these in your copy and help them connect to a bigger vision of themselves. Remember that when every part of their unconscious mind feels safe and capable to do the thing, it will be so much easier for them to take action.

And next, you want to use marketing techniques that stimulate the dopamine response in their brains. Dopamine is what gets people paying attention, learning, and coming back for more. Brainstorm ways to make your marketing content more curiosity-arousing, fun, exciting, entertaining, or even addicting!

When your followers come into your sphere, a dose of oxytocin and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) are released in their brains. Wait, what? Here’s the translation: you instinctively understand your people’s needs, desires and challenges. You’re highly attuned to their emotions even when they are unspoken, and skillfully mirror them back to them.

That means your audience feels deeply connected when they’re around you. Your compassionate nature makes people feel nurtured and gives them that critical “I belong” feeling. Remember, humans have evolved to let their guard down when they are part of “the in-group.” Your authenticity and empathy has a disarming effect. It deactivates the “critical filter” of the prefrontal cortex of their brain; that’s the stuff that usually puts people on “alert” mode when they are being marketed to.

That means, when you speak, your people trust you and your solution effortlessly. Hooray!

How to make your marketing even better: You’ve got the safety and trust part down. (Sleazy “bro marketers” could never!) To make clicking that “buy” button a no-brainer, you need to stimulate a positive sense of urgency. When a neurotransmitter called norepinephrine is activated in their brain, it makes people want to do something now instead of filing it away as “I’ll get to it at some point.” So, you want to get all that norepinephrine flowing!

To do this in an ethical way that gets people genuinely excited rather than stressed or pressured, think of ways to draw them toward something juicily, urgently desirable, instead of “pushing their pain” or inciting FOMO.

Secondly, address the unconscious worries that creates an unsafe feeling to buy. If you eliminate what their brains perceive as the “risks” of making the purchase by clearly demonstrating the value and building up the internal resources required to get the desired result, the decision becomes easy. Hone these two factors, and your people will be buying like crazy.

All this means, the way you market appeals to people’s prefrontal cortex — the most evolved part of our brains. What’s more, your level-headedness rubs off on people at the unconscious level. That puts their nervous systems at ease, which creates trust.

People will gladly pay you for your solutions because you stand out as an authority — with the pragmatism and integrity to back it up.

How to make your marketing even better: Sure, people already respect you and trust you to deliver something high-quality. But when it comes to buying decisions, what are the emotional associations they have with you and your offer?

Emotions play a way bigger part in marketing than we think. Many studies show that our unconscious emotions make snap decisions for us, and we “rationalize” them after the fact with logic! So, to sell more, you want to touch people beyond their intellect and rationality. Make people feel seen, heard, and understood. Use storytelling as a marketing tool. Help them to develop an emotional connection with your offer and each of the benefits it offers.

You’re also skilled at telling stories that effortlessly create emotional connections. Your passion is contagious, and you are a mirror to some of people’s most expansive ideas about themselves. 

But you’re not just an aspirational figure. The way you honestly share your own experiences and show your vulnerability makes people feel like they can relate to you. All of this is what makes people want to buy whatever you have to sell. Bravo! 

How to make your marketing even better: Your charisma goes a long way, to be sure. But to get people to consistently throw their money at you, first, you want to clearly articulate how your offer specifically benefits them. Help them to concretely and specifically visualize how their lives are going to change as a result of buying your offer. Help them see how this will “ripple out” to different, seemingly unrelated areas of their lives as well. Take it beyond just the short-term future, and have them imagine the long-term ramifications and benefits. All of this creates very strong emotional motivation to buy.

Second, you want to help people feel more confident that they really can have what they want. You'll be surprised how often it is the case that they don't doubt you or your offer, but they doubt themselves! So many people are looking at your business, thinking: "I trust them, and I know their offer is amazing, but... am I good enough? Do I have what it takes? What if I'm the only one who can't figure it out?" If you can speak to each one of these fears, and demonstrate how capable they are of creating the desired result (and how worthy they are of having it) in ways that are specific and believable, that will make your offer a total no-brainer.
